And just cause a character doesn't realize they're in love doesn't mean they can't have a wholesome and entertaining relationship with a friend that may grow into something bigger.Įdit: Shoutout to Wolt for being this man but in reverse. I want to see why the hero and their love interest work so well as friends and as potential or eventual partners. Whereas I find something like said dumbass lord getting together with the unrequited love interest much more interesting because you're able to build and establish a genuine relationship between characters. It's just that they quite literally just don't ever interact and the lord has a bad case of not noticing girl feelings. Like, it's not even like the lord doesn't even like the girl three out of four times. And while I love the "dumbass lord does not get that the girl is in love with him," it can get a little grating when it's like, not even comedic. The cases I can think of, Catria, Cordelia, Flora, and Faye, all rely on the character never once interacting with the lord outside of Faye. The trope is really not FE's strong suit, almost ever. I'm down for unrequited love sometimes, but I think Fire Emblem could genuinely handle it better. You know, just once I wish the designated unrequited love character was actually the "destined ship," one for entirely valid reasons like being in love with and really supportive of their love interest.
